What is a Gestational Carrier?

What is a Gestational Carrier

Gestational Carrier

Some people are unable to carry a pregnancy to full term and need someone else to carry and give birth to their baby for them. That’s called a gestational carrier, or surrogate – a generous person who agrees to carry a pregnancy for other intended parents.

There are many reasons why someone might not be able to carry a pregnancy.  Some men, non-binary, and trans-folks might use a surrogate to have a baby.

Others might have had a hysterectomy, or have scarring in their uterus or another health condition that prevents pregnancy, or makes carrying a pregnancy dangerous for that individual.

Surrogacy laws vary from state to state, but generally, a legal contract is drawn up with fees and other factors detailed out. IVF is done in these cases to create embryos, and then 1-2 embryos are transferred to the uterus of the gestational carrier who carries and births the baby to the intended parents.

If you are involved in a Gestational Carrier arrangement, acupuncture can be helpful for all concerned. For the intended parents, acupuncture can help mitigate the stress of infertility.

For the gestational carrier, acupuncture can support the health of the pregnancy, help alleviate many pregnancy symptoms, like morning sickness, heartburn, and joint pain, as well as encourage labor when the time comes.
