Unexplained infertility is a very frustrating “diagnosis” to receive, but about one in five couples will be told their infertility doesn’t have a known cause.
Some studies show that for people given the diagnosis of unexplained infertility, it might just take more time – over a seven year period, 36% of people diagnosed with unexplained infertility still got pregnant with no assistance or treatment.
That number increases to 79% for couples who already have at least one child.
One possible ‘explanation’ for ‘unexplained infertility’ include “luteal phase defects”, where the hormone balance is off in the second half of the cycle, not creating an ideal environment for an embryo to develop.
Acupuncture excels at regulating hormones and the menstrual cycle, so if you have irregular cycles, or a long or short luteal phase, acupuncture is a good option to help correct that.
Acupuncture can also improve the uterine environment that an embryo will implant into. If your bloodwork shows that you have low progesterone in the second half of your cycle, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are good options to help boost progesterone, too.
Another possibility is that the quality of the eggs is not high enough to produce a viable embryo.
The egg may be released to soon in its development or too late, or, in rare cases, not at all.
Acupuncture and supplements that your acupuncturist recommends can also help improve egg quality and correct the timing of each step in the menstrual cycle, which increases the chances of getting pregnant.
If you don’t want to wait seven years to find out if you’re in the lucky 36% who will eventually get pregnant, give acupuncture a try.
We would be delighted to help you on your journey to parenthood.
